My Statement on the death of Hugo Chavez
Dead at 58, an enemy of America is gone 
    I just came across this article (link below)  while reading about the Venezuelan dictator's death.  My daughter lived in Doral, Florida while attending school and I saw first hand the instinct of a strong people to escape a dictator's policies and start over in America, where people are still free to make choices.  At least in 1999 they were.  Before reading the article this morning I was thinking about my daughter's friend who fled Venezuela on the urging of his mother who feared for her children's future and the future of her country.  I could only imagine the fear that must have consumed his mother and the people of Venezuela as they anticipated the fist of a totalitarian leader...and then as a mother, I could only imagine the courage it took to insist your children leave for the promise of a free and prosperous life.  This is a story I hope to tell in greater detail, for those who have forgotten the blessings of America and for those who found security and comfort in the most generous country the world has known.  Upon arriving in this country, Venezuelans took advantage of the economic opportunity and they prospered and contributed to the growth and development of Doral, a vibrant community in Miami, Florida.  Read more
